Arabic calligraphy works in every room when the words suit what happens there: a welcome or «ما شاء الله» at the entrance, a verse or a proverb above the living-room sofa, Ayat al-Kursi in the majlis, a name in the bedroom and «وقل رب زدني علما» in the study. A single line of calligraphy can change how a room feels. It draws the eye, slows the pace, and gives a space a sense of intention that a blank wall never quite manages. Here is where it works best, room by room, with the guide for each.
The entrance
The first thing anyone sees when they step into your home sets the tone for everything after it. A framed welcome, a blessing such as «ما شاء الله», the Basmala or the family name turns a hallway from a pass-through into a proper welcome. In a narrow hallway an A3 or an A2 is read up close; a wide entrance takes an A0 or a 90×120 cm. Keep it to one strong piece, well lit. The rest of the welcome is in creating a warm, welcoming home.
The living room
Above a sofa or a console, the work, or two works side by side, covers about two-thirds of the furniture's width, with its centre about 150 cm from the floor: above a three-seat sofa that is a 100×70 cm, a 90×120 cm or two A1s. Pair black letters with warm wood, or a gold frame with a neutral wall. The majlis
Ayat al-Kursi is the verse many families hang in the majlis, at eye level or above, where it is honoured. The tables carry the hospitality: a serving tray carrying «الضيف عزيز» or «أهلاً وسهلاً», dates and dry fruit in a lidded box, and a mabkhara lit before the guests arrive, AED 85 for one censer or AED 195 for a set of three. The bedroom
Keep it personal and small: a name, a short phrase, or a couple's two names set on one line, framed in A3 for AED 185. Scale down, and let the piece sit quietly rather than dominate.
The study or home office

Quick answers
How big should calligraphy be above a sofa? About two-thirds of the sofa's width: a 210 cm sofa wants a piece about 140 cm wide, or two pieces side by side. Every size and price is in the size guide.
How high should it hang? With its centre about 150 cm from the floor, and 20 to 25 cm between its lower edge and the back of a sofa.
